I like both the Civic and Mazda3--both are stylish (although different character), reliable, and a great value for the money for small cars. The Civic has stellar front, side, and rear crash test results from IIHS, but all versions except the Si lack
Both are pretty much the same i.e. near the top of the class in safety terms. I'd guess that the civic is safer though as it's a newer model. Check out the toughest car crash tests in the world at the sources below. This is the European standard for crash
