Help me diagnose this engine noise- 2002 mazda protege?
Jun 22, 2009 by Blueearth423 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I hear a tinny, rattling noise as my automatic trans is about to shift. I discovered today that the noise is always produced at 2500 rpm. Do you know what this might be? Thanks in advance!

Driven: 2012 Mazda3 Skyactiv
27.11.11
Mazda tweaked other areas of the 3’s design and engineering to make the new Skyactiv model a complete and holistically ideal car in the eyes of this team. Aiming for driving dynamics (and efficiency) to match those of the new engine and transmissions, the Skyactiv features a stronger, more rigid structure, with more weld points, increased thickness in parts of the frame, a more rigid front crossmember, and added brace bar. Aerodynamics have been improved, giving the four-door a 0.27 coefficient of drag (the same as a Nissan GT-R), with a 0.29 drag coefficient for the five-door. The Mazda3 has updated steering and suspension, improving handling and shedding weight. Inside, the cabin uses a new cloth material, which we found much more pleasing both to the touch and to the eye. In front of us were black backgrounds and a silver finish on a lot of the controls, which not only look better, but are easier to spot and use without taking your eyes of the road. engine mazda noise - News
Automobile Magazine - Nov 27, 2011
The stereo head unit has a circular design theme, which is chintzy, and when you lift off the gas in first going through a parking lot, the engine makes a horrific sloshing noise -- no, it's not broken, that's how the engine is supposed to work.
the firmer suspension, or the sound of the engine at high revs, Mazda's offering just speaks to our enthusiast side with a larger vocabulary. Ford is stepping up its game here with its high-quality interior and refined ride quality.
and the seemingly ever-present din of road noise on some surfaces. Otherwise, ride quality is surprisingly absorbent and comfortable, given the suspension's taut, responsive tuning. With the base-model Mazda5 Sport trim, Mazda was clearly skimping
which reduces road noise and makes the Mazda 3 facelift cabin even quieter. Over the past two years, the Mazda 3 line-up has been expanded by several new engines and derivatives bringing the total number of different powertrains to seven.
For 2010, in a move that was as much about increasing fuel economy as creating a new priceleading model, Mazda had installed its 161-horsepower 2.5-litre four-cylinder as the base engine, relegating the once-standard turbocharged 2.3-L engine to the
